It’s back-to-work day. My Christmas and New Years were a great holiday and I feel refreshed by the time off. Much stuff continues building in the background. Photo shoots, graphic design, the ongoing development of business processes and systems, legal stuff.
The exciting news is that I’m starting to work with 1-on-1 clients this week. I have a small group of friends and family helping me test all of the above. My roster is full, but there is a waiting list if you’re interested in a highly discounted individual coaching package during the soft launch/beta testing phase of opening Laura J. Smart Health & Wellness.
I don’t have New Years resolutions. I think the decision to change a habit or add a new one can be taken any day. Why wait for a calendar date? I’m not opposed to milestone markers as change starters. It works for some people.
One needs to do what works for oneself. I observe that formal new years resolutions don’t work for many people. I witness a surge in gym attendees starting January 1. And I witness a big drop in gym attendees roughly 3-4 weeks later.
I suspect that it’s not enough to want change, no matter how badly. One needs tools and self-compassion to gain consistency and mastery of a new habit. I recommend that one start with only one small habit that is dead easy to do and accept that change does not happen quickly. The first habit I made when starting my nutrition journey was adding a protein serving to my breakfast. That’s it. Less than five minutes of work and I don’t need to take anything away from my life.
I wish you success in your resolutions. And if you miss a day or two, you can always start again with the very next meal or very next workout. That’s a resolution too. Be kind to yourself.
